Impression Connect

Make Scribe part of the workflow around it.

Bring project-specific web and desktop applications into the authoring environment, with access to the project, lesson, and Storyboard the author is already working with.

Extend the authoring environment

Give specialized work a natural place inside Scribe.

Some courseware programs need tools that would never belong in a generic authoring product. Impression Connect lets those tools launch from Scribe and communicate with the content already open in the editor.

An extension can be a browser-based application or a Windows application. Instead of asking the author to locate a project, reopen a lesson, or identify the current Storyboard in another system, Scribe can provide that working context when the application starts.

The result is a focused tool that feels like part of the production environment while remaining free to use the interface, logic, data sources, and technology its purpose requires.

Project-specific capabilities

Build around the work that makes the program different.

Connect extensions are not limited to a prescribed set of add-ons. They can address the content, review, data, and production requirements of a particular organization or project.

Specialized authoring

Create purpose-built editors for content or data that needs more guidance than a standard field can provide.

Validation and quality checks

Inspect lesson information against project rules and take authors directly to the content that needs attention.

Media workflows

Associate requests, specifications, notes, status, or production information with the relevant lesson or Storyboard.

Review and discrepancies

Capture issues and supporting data in the context of the courseware without forcing that workflow into the instructional content itself.

Lookup and reference tools

Bring terminology, approved language, source data, catalogs, or other external information into the authoring process.

System integration

Exchange data with project databases, production systems, reporting tools, or other applications the program depends on.

These are examples, not a fixed extension catalog. Connect provides the integration layer for applications designed around other requirements as well.

Context-aware applications

Stay connected to what the author is doing.

A Connect application can begin with information about the current environment, content database, selected lesson, active lesson, and running extension instance.

It can work with course and project information, read lesson and Storyboard content, and respond as the author’s context changes. When an application is designed to update courseware, Connect provides the session and locking behavior needed to coordinate those changes with Scribe.

Project

Know the environment

Work with project configuration, users, course structure, and the active content database.

Lesson

Understand the source

Read the current lesson structure and its complete XML content model.

Storyboard

Focus the task

Use the selected learning unit and its properties as the context for a specialized operation.

Connect APIs

A practical interface to Scribe and its content.

Connect uses a local HTTP-based API, allowing web technologies and desktop applications to exchange XML, JSON, and supporting data with Scribe.

Content API

Work with courseware

Access project information, course structure, lessons, Storyboards, active authoring context, and supported content operations.

Talk API

Store workflow data

Associate application-defined posts—such as requests, discrepancies, or production notes—with a project, lesson, or Storyboard.

Utilities API

Support the application

Retrieve environment and application information, available users, timestamps, unique identifiers, and connection status.

Develop and deploy

Create the extension that fits the requirement.

Organizations can build their own Connect extensions, engage Logicdriven, or incorporate an extension supplied for a particular program. Each project controls which applications are available, how they are ordered, and whether access is restricted.

The Impression Connect SDK documents the Content, Talk, and Utilities APIs and provides the technical reference needed to build against the connection layer.
