The ecosystem

Authoring and delivery designed as one system.

Impression Smart Studio gives courseware creators the freedom to follow the instructional need from first idea to final delivery—without letting the authoring tool dictate the solution.

One source of truth

Separate content from presentation.

Traditional tools often bind instructional content to a fixed screen design. Smart Studio stores the lesson as structured XML and lets the Courseware Engine decide how that content should look and behave.

That separation keeps objectives, storyboards, interactions, remediation, media references, and sequencing available as durable project data. Presentation standards can change without rebuilding the instructional source.

Impression Scribe

The creative and production center of Smart Studio—where an instructional idea becomes a complete learning experience.

Scribe is a powerful courseware authoring tool that lets you see what you are building as an instructional system, not a stack of slides. As a lesson grows, Scribe keeps the big picture visible: what learners need to accomplish, how the content is organized, the paths they can take, where their understanding is checked, and what happens when they need more help. You can move from the complete lesson to a single piece of content without losing sight of how it fits into the learner experience.

Storyboards give every learning unit a defined purpose. A Storyboard can explain a concept, ask a question, present media, provide a menu, organize part of the lesson, or guide a simulation procedure. Purpose-built editors and a visual canvas make that complexity approachable, while structured XML preserves the content and behavior beneath the screen.

That foundation gives Scribe unusual range. Start from reusable project standards, preview the learner experience while the source remains editable, generate or revise material with the built-in Smart Content Assistant, and add project-specific tools through Impression Connect. Report Generator can turn the lesson data already in Scribe into repeatable review, production, and quality-assurance documents, while recovery, classification, and packaging capabilities carry the same source through delivery.

Because instructional content is separate from its presentation, a lesson can adopt a different viewer, visual language, or delivery behavior without rebuilding the instructional source. Scribe is approachable enough for an individual author and powerful enough for large, specialized courseware programs.

Delivery component

Impression Courseware Engine

The Courseware Engine transforms content authored in Scribe into the complete learner-facing experience. It manages presentation, navigation, interactions, scoring, state, and LMS communication.

Start with the standard viewer for rapid delivery or adapt the engine when a program needs its own visual language, specialized controls, simulation integration, or project-specific behavior.

Reusable viewers

Apply a common delivery system across many lessons and update presentation independently.

SCORM and xAPI

Package SCORM courseware or report learning activity through xAPI, with course-state and LMS communication support.

Extensible

Add custom Storyboard behavior, integrations, and simulation interfaces when requirements demand it.
